Thank you Skye Allen for nominating me to join this blog hop. So without further ado, here are my answers to the five fabulous questions…
1) What am I working on?
I’ve got a few things in the works at the moment. I’m currently waiting on beta feedback for a NA m/m science fiction novel. In the mean time I’m working on a paranormal/magical realism NA novel and I’m in the early drafting stages for a YA fantasy story. I’ve also got a short story involving androids waiting to be written and due in October for an anthology.
2) How does my work differ from others in its genre?
Hm, tricky to answer because as an author you’re so close to the work it’s often difficult to see it with any sort of objectivity and recognize its faults or strengths. I’d like to think I’m able to come up with fairly original descriptions and I have a tendency to go for bleaker settings. In every single book I’ve ever written, there’s always at least one character who is a musician so music definitely plays a big role in storytelling for me. I also try to layer in allusions to philosophy and literature, like little easter eggs hinting at deeper meanings.
3) Why do I write what I do?
I love speculative fiction, particularly science fiction, because it gives my imagination absolute freedom within a plausible context. I love exploring existential questions against a technological backdrop, particularly with regard to technology being a help or hindrance to future societies.
4) How does my writing process work?
I try to write every day and tend to treat it more like a 9-5 job when I can. Of course, if I’m feeling truly inspired, I’ll stay up until 2AM writing, but that doesn’t happen too often. It’s only recently that I’ve switched from being a total pantser to a planner-pantser hybrid. These days I don’t start writing until I’ve got a working blurb and basic synopsis with an emphasis on character development. This outline usually changes during the course of the actual writing, but I don’t think I’ll ever start writing without some sort of outline ever again.
5) Who’s next on the blog hop?
This one I’m leaving open ended. Anyone who would like to participate, please do and link back to this post, maybe comment as well to let me know where I can find your answers 🙂
