This week browsing through the tomes of DeviantArt as I do, I was struck by the image below. It’s macabre and yet delicately rendered and tells a profound tale.
The original artwork of hasabattle (check out the original by clicking on the image), this digital drawing really grabbed my attention. Firstly, anything with a vulture hovering immediately reminds me of the Pulitzer prize winning photograph taken by Kevin Carter, secondly, this image reminds me of the Greek myth of Prometheus and thirdly, the expression on the boy’s face is just so submissive and resigned to his fate that it breaks my heart. Although macabre and almost ghastly, this image really is perfectly rendered, from the rope and bone detail to the expression to the vulture’s ghostly pinions. Art like this takes my breath away.
