Requiem for a Dream is one of my all time favourite books. It’s a difficult book to read not least because of the lack of punctuation and heavy use dialect in the dialogue. The themes are heavy, the characters tragic but masterfully crafted and the overall story just remarkable. It reminds me of how fragile life can be, and how it can all get swept in a moment of bad decision making. The book was made into a film directed by Darren Aronofsky, starring Jared Leto, Ellen Burstyn and Jennifer Connelly. It is an outstanding film, as exquisite as it is devastating. The soundtrack by Clint Mansell still haunts me. You can watch the trailer below:
