TGIF: Choosing what to read next…

Choose Your Next Read: How do you go about choosing

what you read next? Do you have a schedule you follow, or do you read whatever makes you happy at the moment?

Choosing what to read next is a pretty big problem for me, especially if I’ve just finished a book that wowed me. Getting out of one intense world and being able to immerse myrself in another can really be tricky.

Thank goodness for Amazon’s sample chapter option! Whenever I find a book that looks interesting, I send the sample chapter to my kindle. That way, I’ve always got a few (like dozens!) of options at my fingertips.

I’m currently struggling with what to read next right this minute. I just finished Lissa Price’s Starters. Last night, I tried the sample chapter for Above but the voice just didn’t grab me. Then I tried the newly released Starling and thought maybe I needed a break from YA because it’s a book I really want to read, but maybe not right now. Next I started the sample chapter for Prince of Thorns thinking it would be a nice break from YA and good epic fantasy for adults. Fail! The MC is only 13! (Please note, Prince of Thorns is definitely NOT a YA novel. The protagonist just happens to be that young in the beginning.)

Weep.

I also started Oryx And Crake by Margaret Atwood but I just didn’t get sucked into the story the way I wanted to.

Tonight, I think I may try Shiver by Maggie Stiefvatar and hopefully that will stick. If not, then I’ll work my way through the sample chapters on my kindle until I find something I just can’t put down.

So many good books to read. So little time!

How do you choose a new book to read?
