RTW: Writing Retreats

This Week’s Topic:

If you could go on a writing retreat anywhere, where would you go & who would you bring?

I only had to think about my answer for about two seconds. Given that my current work in progress is set on terraformed Callisto and was very much inspired by the landscape of this random little island, my ideal place for a writing retreat would be:

SOCOTRA

Home to dragon’s blood trees (central to my WIP), and some of the most unspoiled beaches on the planet, Socotra is a veritable paradise located in the Indian Ocean between Somalia and Saudi Arabia. Tourism isn’t big there since Somali pirates are using the Socotran port as a refueling station. That somehow just adds to the whole foreign allure of the archipelago: beautiful but dangerous.

I hope one day to be able to visit Socotra. If ever I did go there on a writing retreat I’d probably want to just go by myself, to absorb the wonder of the place and transcribe that into words for a story. A girl can dream…
